If there ever was anyone that exemplified the saying “do what you love and love what you do”, it’s Ron Wainhouse Chief Architectural Designer at William Buchan Homes. Whether the design of your William Buchan home begins with a line on a drafting table or on the closest available restaurant napkin, each home design is special-uniquely William Buchan distinctively Ron.
Since childhood, design has been Ron’s lifeblood. You would not find one without the other. “I had a drawing board alongside my bed when I started grade school. It started out as a hobby when I was a kid-my dad built houses, and I was designing homes when I was still in school”. Ron’s natural talent continued to flourish and he honed his skills in residential design while attending the University of Washington’s School of Architecture.
Ron’s university education was just the beginning of his mastery of residential design. “Early in my career, I worked in every phase of the construction business, from foundations and framing to the finish work. Everything it takes to build a house-I’ve done it. This truly gave me a thorough working knowledge of how to put a house together-from the ground up.” Combining this with his meticulous attention to every detail Ron has designed over 500 homes for William Buchan since 1995. Over the years he has earned recognition from coast to coast. He has been bestowed with several awards-National Propane Home of the Year, numerous MAME Awards from the Seattle Master Builders and the Pacific Coast Grand Award-Best in the West. His home designs have also appeared in Builder magazine and House Beautiful.
It’s the artist in Ron that inspires him, and the ever-changing needs of the home buyer that keep Ron always working on his next design. “The beauty and the appeal of the home have to draw you in. But a home has to be build able as well”, Ron emphasizes. “It has to flow within and without, working within the context of its site and the homes that make up its neighborhood. Home design never stands still. We continually listen to the evolving demands of home buyers in terms of both house features and aesthetic ideals”.
